What do Switches do in an HVAC System?

Switches are integral for managing functions in the HVAC system like powering the system, modifying temperature levels, controlling the velocity of the fan and alternating between heating, cooling and ventilation modes. These controls enable occupants to tailor the interior environment for optimal comfort and also activate special functionalities such as modes for conserving energy, timers for scheduled operations, and features for improving air quality through filtration and circulation.

What are the Different Types of HVAC Switches?

Two essential switches in HVAC systems are pressure switches and temperature limit switches. Pressure switches are designed to make or break an electrical contact based on the attainment of a certain pressure, ensuring the system operates within safe parameters. On the other hand, temperature limit switches play a key role in temperature regulation, activating when the HVAC system reaches a specific temperature, to maintain the desired climate control.

What are Pressure Switches Used For?

In HVAC systems, pressure switches are employed to maintain the compressor's pressure within safe limits. They act as safeguards, preventing the system from hitting pressure levels that could be deemed dangerous during operation.

What is an HVAC Float Switch?

An essential component in preventing water damage, the HVAC float switch—often referred to as the AC safety switch or the condensate overflow switch—detects and stops overflow in the drip pan by monitoring issues with the air conditioner's drain.
