Take a look through our Montague broiler troubleshooting guide below so you can find the solution to your woes and get back to broiling in no time! 

This guide is applicable for gas-fired broiler models 36W36, 43W36, 136W36, V136W36, 235W36, 243W36, C36 and C45.

Pilot Burner Flames Are Yellow

  • Gas is too rich—Adjust the pilot burner according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Pilot’s air passages are clogged—Have the pilot burner orifice replaced.
  • Pilot isn’t properly adjusted—Adjust the pilot by turning the pilot adjustment screw until the flame consistently maintains a ~½” length.

Pilot Burner Flames Are Too Short or Too Long

  • Pilot isn’t properly adjusted—Adjust the pilot by turning the pilot adjustment screw until the flame consistently maintains a ~½” length.
  • Pilot’s air passages are clogged—Have the pilot burner orifice replaced.

One or More Pilot Burner Flames Can’t Be Adjusted

  • Pilot burner or orifice is faulty—Have the pilot burner or orifice replaced.
  • Pilot valve is faulty—Have the pilot valve replaced.

Burner Flames Are Yellow

  • Gas pressure or secondary air is incorrect—Have the gas pressure checked and adjusted/clean air mixture.

One or More Burner Flames Can’t Be Adjusted

  • Venturi passage is dirty—Have the main burner orifice replaced.
  • Gas pressure is incorrect—Have the gas pressure checked and adjusted.
  • Ceramics are damaged or missing—Have ceramics replaced.
  • Burner valve is faulty—Have burner valve replaced.

Burner Heat Isn’t Consistent Over Ceramic Tiles

  • Burner ports are clogged—Have the burner ports cleaned or replaced.
  • Ceramics are damaged or missing—Have ceramics replaced.
  • Venturi passage is dirty—Have the main burner orifice replaced.
  • Gas pressure is incorrect—Have the gas pressure checked and adjusted.

Carriage Assembly Won’t Stay at Set Height

  • Handle spring tension needs adjusting—Have the handle spring adjusted.
  • Gear with bracket is worn or broken—Have the gear with bracket replaced.

Carriage Assembly Moves Too Easily or is Too Difficult to Move

  • Carriage spring tension needs adjusting—Have the carriage spring adjusted.
