Picture - Prince Castle Tomato Slicer Operating Instructions

Prince Castle tomato slicers feature ergonomic handles and safety components that make quick, clean vegetable prep easy. Although handling these units is fairly straightforward, this set of Prince Castle tomato slicer operating instructions explains how to use these machines safely and properly.

This guide is for Tomato Saber™ models, such as the 943-BK, along with Saber King™ and Saber King Mini™ Units.

Supplies

Keep fingers away from the blades to minimize the risk of injury. Take note of slicing quality and replace the blades if you notice reduced performance.

Tomato Saber™ Instructions

Refrain from using the Tomato Saber™ to cut anything other than tomatoes since doing so can invalidate the warranty and damage the blades.

Slicing Tomatoes

  • Step 1. Select tomatoes for slicing - Use ripe tomatoes that don’t exceed 3-1/2” (8.9CM) in diameter for best slicing results.
  • Step 2. Core the tomatoes - Remove the tomato cores with the Prince Castle Tomato Core-It™ and then discard the cores.
  • Step 3. Ready the machine - Hold the top handle with one hand and grasp the round pusher handle with the other hand, then pull the carrier assembly back as far as possible.
  • Step 4. Position the tomato - Place a tomato against the tomato pusher with the core side down.
  • Step 5. Slice the tomato - Hold the bridge with one hand and grip the round pusher handle with the other, then push the handle forward in a quick, smooth motion until the pusher head stops. This action will drive the tomato through the blades and complete the slice.
  • Step 6. Retrieve the sliced tomato - Remove the tomato slices from the tomato catcher and place them in a pan or other container.
  • Step 7. Reset the slicer - Repeat step 3 by holding the top handle and pulling the pusher handle back to reposition the carrier assembly.

Replacing Blades

Replace the blades if they are damaged or dull and no longer make clean cuts.

  • Step 1. Retract the carrier assembly - Hold onto the round, red handle and pull the carrier assembly all the way back.
  • Step 2. Remove the blade cartridge - Grasp the bridge with one hand while using your other hand to hold the blade cartridge with your fingertips, then pull the blade cartridge out of the machine.
  • Step 3. Install the new blade cartridge - Slide in the new blade cartridge with the arrow facing up, pushing it into place until it snaps into the blade clip.
  • Step 4. Discard the old blade cartridge - Put the old cartridge in the new cartridge’s packaging and then dispose of it.
  • Step 5. Check blade alignment - Slide the pusher head halfway through the blades, then look at the blades from eye level to verify that each one is centered between the pusher head plates.
  • Step 6. Adjust blades (if necessary) - Use a flathead screwdriver to bend the pusher head plate up or down as needed to ensure that all blades are centered.

Saber King™/Saber King Mini™ Directions

Cutting Tomatoes

Be sure to choose the correct cartridges for tomatoes, lettuce, onions or other food products. Refer to the operator's manual for more information if needed.

  • Step 1. Ready the machine - Make sure the handle is in the upright position by placing one hand on the handle and the other on the crossbar, then pull up until the latch locks the chassis into place.
  • Step 2. Ensure the cartridge is locked - Make sure the cartridge locking pins are in the locked (vertical) position. If they aren’t, flip them upright.
  • Step 3. Position the food product in the slicer - Place food product in the machine, paying attention to the shaped guides on the red and white cartridges to know how to position it. Be sure to lay tomatoes sideways so the blades will make large, wide slices. If cutting other types of vegetables, see the user’s manual for more details on positioning.
  • Step 4. Place a pan under the unit - Put a pan or bowl under the machine to catch food product as it’s cut.
  • Step 5. Slice the food product - Place one hand on the handle and the other on the crossbar. Then, use your thumb to open the handle latch on the crossbar so that you can pull the handle downwards in a quick, smooth motion. This will cut the food product.
  • Step 6. Remove the food product - Retrieve the sliced food product in the pan or bowl under the unit.
  • Step 7. Reset the machine - Repeat step 1 by pulling the handle up until the latch locks the chassis into place.

Replacing Cartridges

Inspect the blade cartridge after every use and replace if there’s any sign of damage.

  • Step 1. Lower the handle - Use one hand to grasp the crossbar and the other to hold the handle. Use your thumb to open the latch and then pull the handle down.
  • Step 2. Unlock the cartridge - Move the two upper and lower cartridge locking pins into their horizontal positions in order to release the cartridge.
  • Step 3. Remove the cartridge - Hold the pusher and blade components together as you pull them out of the C-shaped channel in the chassis.
  • Step 4. Insert a new cartridge - Keep the pusher and blade components together as you insert them into the C-shaped channel. Be sure the solid side of the pusher component is facing up.
