How to Light a Pitco Fryer Pilot Light
Pitco’s line of fryers can whip up all the delicious foods that make any restaurant, bar or cafeteria a go-to spot for patrons. In order for it to function, the unit needs the pilot light going strong. Some models, including select Frialators, still require the pilot light to be lit manually.
Whenever the pilot goes out, here are the steps for lighting the pilot light on a Pitco fryer. These are instructions supplied by Pitco for equipment operators to use. However, if you’re uncomfortable or unable to complete this task safely, please contact an authorized technician for any further assistance.
Step 1. Prepare Your Unit
When relighting the pilot in your fryer, make sure that gas in the surrounding area dissipates. Once you’ve given enough time for gas to dissolve, open the gas supply valve handle and turn the thermostat control to “OFF.”
Step 2. Light the Fryer’s Pilot Light
Start by turning the gas valve knob (aka “the pilot knob”) to “PILOT” (see Figure 1), and follow these instructions:
- Push and hold the pilot knob – Push in the knob, and hold it for about one minute to purge air out of the line.
- Hold a flame to the pilot light area – While holding down the knob, place a flame to the pilot light area until the pilot ignites. Ignition could take a while when you first light the unit due to excessive air buildup in the unit’s gas lines.
- Hold the pilot knob again – Once the pilot light is lit, hold the knob for about one minute before releasing.
Step 3. Repeat Lighting Procedure if Pilot Goes Out
Repeat the instructions in step 2 if the pilot light goes out. Make sure to wait about five minutes for gas to dissipate again before repeating. If the pilot light won’t stay lit after a few more attempts, check out our troubleshooting guide or your Pitco owner’s manual for more assistance. You may need to contact a certified technician or service company to repair a complex issue.
Step 4. Set Knobs Back into Place
If the pilot light stays lit following the procedure in step 2, turn the gas valve knob (pilot knob) to “ON” (see Figure 2). Then, set the thermostat control to the desired temperature.
Bonus Instructions: Turning Off the Pilot Light
If you ever need to turn the pilot light off, push your gas valve knob (pilot knob) to “PILOT.” Slightly push in and turn it to “OFF.” Then, turn close gas supply valve handle.
