How to Clean a Perlick H80 Ice Machine
Keeping your Perlick H80 ice maker cleaned regularly will help it function properly, and maintain the quality and safety of the ice it produces. Below, we break down the steps on how to both clean and sanitize your H80 unit so you know how to complete each task correctly.
Perlick H80 ice makers should be cleaned and sanitized at least twice a year.
Supplies
- Funnel
- Hose
- 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution
- Warm water
- Cleaning cloths
Cleaning
- Step 1—Turn off the ice maker and remove all ice from the storage bin.
- Step 2—Move the control switch to the DRAIN position and wait 1 minute to allow the water system to drain.
- Step 3—Turn the unit off again.
- Step 4—Use a funnel and a hose to pour 1 quart of cleaning solution over the extruding head, then let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Step 5—After 10 minutes, move the control switch to the ICE setting and let the unit run for 20 minutes.
- Step 6—After the 20 minutes are up, move the control switch to DRAIN and wait 1 minute.
- Step 7—Move the control switch to the ICE setting and wait for the gear motor to start.
- Step 8—As soon as the gear motor starts, turn the control switch to the DRAIN setting and wait for 1 minute.
- Step 9—Turn the unit off and repeat Steps 1-8 if needed.
Sanitizing
- Step 10—Use a funnel and a hose to pour 1 quart of cleaning solution over the extruding head, then let it sit for 10 minutes.
- NOTE—Perlick recommends a solution of 1.25 fl. Oz. of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution diluted with 2.5 gallons of warm water.
- Step 11—While the sanitizing solution sits, remove the slope by carefully bending it in the center to release it from the two slope shafts.
- Step 12—Remove the ice scoop and its holder by removing the two thumbscrews.
- Step 13—Wipe down the scoop, scoop holder, slope, the inside of the spout and the bin liner with a clean cloth and sanitizing solution.
- Step 14—Thoroughly rinse the scoop, scoop holder and slope at the sink, and wipe the inside of the spout and the bin liner with a damp cloth.
- Step 15—Once the 10 minutes are up, move the control switch to the ICE setting and wait for 20 minutes.
- Step 16—When time’s up, move the switch to the DRAIN setting and wait an additional minute.
- Step 17—Move the switch to the ICE setting and wait for the gear motor to start.
- Step 18—Move the switch to the DRAIN setting and wait 1 minute.
- Step 19—Turn off the unit by moving the switch to OFF.
- Step 20—Repeat Step 10, then Steps 16-19.
- Step 21—Move the switch to the ICE setting and let the unit run for 30 minutes.
- NOTE—Check for leaks while the unit is running.
- Step 22—Turn off the unit by moving the switch to OFF.
- Step 23—Melt the ice by pouring warm water into the storage bin.
- Step 24—Use a neutral cleaner and a soft cloth to clean the storage bin liner, door liner and gasket.
- Step 25—Rinse the storage bin liner, door liner and gasket thoroughly with water.
- Step 26—Reinstall the scoop holder, the scoop and slope.
- Step 27—Move the switch to the ICE setting to turn on the unit, and finish the cleaning process.
